Will Repellents Get a Rat Out of the Attic?

In this article, we'll cover plant-based rat deterrents. There are smorgasbords of choices out there for plants that can be planted to deter Augusta rodents as well as the essential oils from various plants with the pest-repelling chemical properties. Products like moth balls and liquid rat repellents are also available. The fact of the matter is, these methods and products work. Here is a short list of the best tactics to deter those pesky Georgia rats from invading your home:

Home-Remedies
There are several “witch-doctor” type methods that can be used to repel Augusta rodents. Here are a few:
-Boric Acid and Peanut-Butter
-One of the less expensive options
-Combine ¼ cup Boric acid and ½ cup peanut-butter
-Form the mixture into marble-sized balls
-Place the balls where you think the rats are hanging out or coming in at
-This only works for one, maybe two rats, not for a family of them
-Raw Sweet Potato or Raw dry beans and peanuts
-This method kills the rats
-Rats are drawn to these foods. The foods are deadly to the rats
-There are certain nutrients in the foods that cause a cyanide-reaction in the rodent

These methods are okay to use, but really only for one or two Augusta rats, not a real infestation. What about liquid repellents from the store? Or moth balls?

Liquid Rat Repellents
The concept behind most of these products is fear, more or less. The scent they release is supposed to mimic the smell of a cat, the Augusta rat's “natural enemy.” The smell is not typically strong enough to bother a human. In all honesty, it's not really effective enough to bother the rats, either. Most of these products are known to not work very well. The science behind these products' failure is that Georgia rats have been breeding and feeding in close proximity with their natural predators for generations, so their smell doesn't really scare them too badly.

The Biggest Myth of All-Having a Clean Augusta Home
Somehow, society has come to believe that Georgia rats only nest in dirty places. That is not the case. While it is true that they will reside in less visible environments, but they are still apt to take up residency in your garage, attic, walls, or basement.
